M5.1 Earthquake Centered Near San Jose, No Impact to Campus

An earthquake was felt in the Stanford area at 11:42 a.m. Preliminary information is that it was centered 12 miles south of San Jose and registered 5.1 on the Richter scale.

At this time, we are not aware of significant impacts at Stanford, and we anticipate no disruptions to normal university operations.

Please be aware that aftershocks are always possible. In an aftershock, “Duck, Cover and Hold” until the shaking stops. Report any emergencies to 911, or 9-911 from a campus telephone. If you observe new damage to campus buildings, please report it to (650) 723-2281.
